Civil Engineer

Description:
Our client a leading housing developer requires a Civil Engineer to join their team in the Stafford Area. You will be responsible for ensuring a cost effective and quality service along with the day to day civil engineering design of developments within the region.
Key Responsibilities & Duties Include (but are not inclusive of):
To manage the civil engineering elements of projects from initial briefing through to design and construction up to technical approval and legal agreement completion within the specified timescales.
Utilisation of computer-aided design software including Autodesk Civil3D, Navisworks, Storm and Sanitary Analysis and Micro Drainage. A working knowledge of Autodesk Revit is also required.
Undertake detailed design of mains infrastructure including but not limited to highways, drainage and earthworks together with private works design, ensuring a fully value engineered solution is delivered on time against regional budgets.
Produce accurate and clear detail drawings without ambiguity.
Work independently to ensure all site constraints / strategies and health and safety information are produced on time, correctly in line with regional procurement programmes.
To manage and coach junior members of staff appropriate to their skills and experience.
Manage and coordinate external consultants where necessary.
To carry out all necessary functions to assist the smooth running of the Civil Engineering function of the technical department.
To provide technical support both within the technical department and other internal departments as necessary throughout the lifecycle of a project.
Production or coordination of combined services drawings in collaboration with the regional Services Coordinator.
To manage the progress of the project from initial briefing by the Associate Director, through design and construction.
Critically appraise layout designs to ensure suitability against engineering constraints. Ensure compliance with the Company’s Health & Safety Policy Health and safety
Produce health and safety information appropriate to the department’s obligations as Principle Designer under CDM 2015.
Be proactive in promoting a positive attitude to health, safety and the environment.
Ensure you have read the Company’s health and safety policies and procedures and observe them at all times.
Reporting any accidents or near misses immediately to your Manager and record them in the accident book.
Ensure your workplace is kept tidy and any hazards are eliminated or reported to your line manager.
Wear appropriate protective clothing on site at all times in accordance with company policy.
Attend all health and safety training as required by the Company.
Skills & experience
Essential
Bachelor of Engineering degree (BEng), or Master’s Degree in civil engineering (Meng) or HNC/HND at Technician level but must be willing to complete a degree course whilst working
Experience working within a residential house builder
In-depth knowledge of CAD
Knowledge of other engineering packages (Geosite, Smart Engineer, Autotrack, Microdrainage, PDS)
Understanding of changes to regulations and legislation
Strong mathematical and IT ability
Able to analyse complex data and critically evaluate plans
Good decision-making skills
Good understanding of budget management
A good communicator/listener
The ability to visualise and explain design ideas
Good team working skills
Accurate with an eye for detail
Decision making/problem solving/multi-tasking
Excellent communications skills
Able to work under pressure, and accept criticism of work
