Our client a leading national prestigious house builder is recruiting for a Civil Engineer. This position will be based in Cheltenham and is full time and permanent


You will be responsible for the day to day civil engineering design of developments within the region in accordance with current working practices and accordingly provide a quality and cost effective service.

Daily/Weekly tasks will include: -

Managing the civil engineering elements of projects from initial briefing through to design and construction up to adoption within the specified timescales
Undertaking thorough investigations into the infrastructure requirements of land opportunities and ensure that the results of investigations are communicated effectively to the relevant regional stakeholders. •
Establishing the most cost effective and timely means of delivering the necessary infrastructure to potential land acquisitions and prepare the necessary reports accordingly.
Ensuring compliance with the Company’s Health & Safety Policy
Allocating work to junior members of staff appropriate to their skills and experience
Undertaking the training of junior staff
Carry out all necessary functions to assist the smooth running of the Civil Engineering function of the technical department.
Undertaking designs achieving practical and economic solutions working either as part of a team or independently
Providing technical advice within the Department for planning applications, etc.
Specific activities regarding infrastructure appraisals, drainage design, highway design
The preparation of engineering drawings
Utilisation of computer-aided design software, drainage design software and PDS modelling
Liaison with Service Authorities and production of combined services drawings
Managing the progress of the project from initial briefing, through design and construction, to adoption within the specified timescales
Maintaining effective and efficient infrastructure and detailed site design and construction
Checking all design work throughout the department

Skills you will need to fulfil this role include: -

Bachelor of Engineering degree (BEng), or, Masters degree in Civil Engineering (MEng), or HNC/HND at technician level but must be willing to complete a degree course whilst working
Or equivalent qualifications
Experience working within a residential house builder
In-depth knowledge of CAD
Knowledge or other engineering packages (Geosite, Smart Engineer, Autotrack, Microdrainage, PDS)
Understanding of changes to regulations and legislation
Strong mathematical and IT ability
Able to analyse complex data and critically evaluate plans
Good decision making skills
Good understanding of budget management
A good communicator/listener
The ability to visualise and explain design ideas
Good team working skills
Accurate with an eye for detail
Decision making/problem solving/multi-tasking
Excellent communications skills
Able to work under pressure, and accept criticism of work

Duration: Permanent 

Salary: From £50000 per Annum
